Who we are

The Love and Grace Welfare Aid Foundation (Public Interest Incorporated Foundation) traces its origins to "Aikei Gakuen," established in 1930 in Motoki, Adachi Ward (then Nishiarai Town), by Christian missionary Ms. Mildred Anne Paine.
This area, located across the Arakawa River, was where many people who had suffered from the Great Kanto Earthquake and subsequent social and economic turmoil moved to settle. In response to their needs, Aikei Gakuen carried out various initiatives, including health counseling for infants, nursery care, and the healthy development of children. These operations continued for sixty years, through the hardships of World War II, until the organization was eventually closed due to regional redevelopment. Subsequently, following advice from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the organization was reborn as a foundation with a new mission (transitioning to a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation in April 2012) and continues its work today. The seeds sown by Ms. Paine nearly a century ago continue to grow and evolve in step with the changes in Japanese society.

Today, social welfare has become an indispensable pillar of society, alongside medical care and education. This is a global trend, not limited to Japan alone. We are committed to utilizing the precious spiritual and material heritage entrusted to us by our predecessors for activities that create a peaceful and prosperous welfare society. The Love and Grace Welfare Aid Foundation will continue to fulfill its given mission and role in accordance with the progress of the times. We sincerely ask for your cooperation and support.
